Just One Breath More
I dream of you in the fading light. Sleep slips into my body like a raven Folding its wings around its body. To shore, to shore! To rest and dream of the days Then let them fade away in time. Fragments remain. A feather floats On the crested wave. A pine cone's seeds have Scattered in the winds To find rest among the redwoods. Let sleep bring the world anew Just one breath more. —Dennis Neal Vaughn |

From an iPhone and Instagram to a Los Angeles Billboard
This project began in earnest January of 2018 and builds upon my prior work stemming back to 2012 with multiple images.
I set upon using my iPhone and Instagram as tools to work within their certain parameters.
I wanted each row of three to tell a type of visual poem, with a beginning, middle, and end as well as the full set of nine that can be read left to right, up and down, even diagonal. I wanted a structure that I could hang images and create threads of stories. I often shoot outside, simply, quickly, responding to various stimuli and in editing I look organically for feelings, patterns, and juxtapositions.
The set of nine square images works well for presentation on Instagram. I like the format and it has lead to a show with the Billboard Creative in Los Angeles. I use my iPad to work out groupings before posting them online. From there they are used as templates to create files with all the original images and thus can be as big as a billboard.
I enjoy playing with scale and groupings that ranges from some smaller images printed for an intimate investigation to large scale works of various configurations and interactions.
