Just One Breath More
I dream of you in the fading light. Sleep slips into my body like a raven Folding its wings around its body. To shore, to shore! To rest and dream of the days Then let them fade away in time. Fragments remain. A feather floats On the crested wave. A pine cone's seeds have Scattered in the winds To find rest among the redwoods. Let sleep bring the world anew Just one breath more. —Dennis Neal Vaughn |

The first act we undertake when we are born and the last act before we die is to simply, breathe our first and last breath.
In between this lies moments of a journey, a path taken down many streets and byways resulting in an experience of the world as a type of conversation. A conversation about seeing the fragmented emotional mix of human, urban, nature, and natural elements; that of air (breath, life), water (subconscious and the body), light (fire, emotional), and earth (physical Nature and Urban habitat).
Ethereal, ephemeral, mysterious, unexplained, blurred, flattened, and fractured the experience of nature and the city, light, shadow, water, air, and the ever present human form, in and out of frame, builds and ebbs and flows seeking balance and solace. A mental state of various awareness, understanding, and stream of consciousness.
The mental, emotional, and physical struggles of living in a world as a disabled HIV+ artist and cancer survivor, as well as having been homeless at one time informs the perspective of the work. This underpins struggles with PTSD, Depression, and Anxiety while seeking peace of mind, a zen breath.
“Just One Breath More, Vicinages,” unfolds abstractly and not always in a linear fashion. A visual kaleidoscope of ever changing moods and moments that in their entirety fashion a state of mind, of sorts, not always immediately clear but with something to say of life and the purity of a simple, eternal breath.
